Warren police get new crime solving tool

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Warren Police Department has a new tool when it comes to solving crimes.

The department just took ownership of a new 2014 Ford Explorer. The SUV will be used by the department’s crime scene investigators and will replace an older vehicle in their fleet. Towed vehicles helped pay for the new SUV.

“The $75 administrative towing fee that we have that is paid by people getting their vehicle out of the impound. And the evidence trunk was donated. The money for that was donated by the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office,” said Warren Police Chief Eric Merkel.

The city’s evidence technician is also part of the Trumbull County Homicide Task Force and will use the vehicle to help out other departments at crime scenes around the county.
