Local woman is victim of revenge porn

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – ”Lynn” of Warren was shocked to see naked pictures of herself posted on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter earlier this week.

It’s called revenge porn, where racy photos pop up on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. There are even whole websites devoted to this kind of revenge.

Lynn said a woman involved with her ex-husband of 11 years posted the photos online out of revenge. She said the photos were even emailed to her mother.

“I am mortified. I am scared to leave the house because I don’t know who has seen them,” she said.

Lynn contacted Facebook, which took them down immediately.  She said she called the woman, who posted them on Twitter as well.

“I said ‘get my pictures off the Internet.’ And she started laughing in my ear and she said ‘oh you don’t like it? I am going to put more on there,’” Lynn said.

She said she never imagined when taking the pictures that they would end up online.

“It was done in private and intimate between me and the man that I loved,” Lynn said.

Attorney Christopher Shaker said there is not much one can do when it comes to revenge porn except to file a Civil Protection order, which Lynn said she is in the process of doing.

‘There is a civil protection order statute that permits a civil protection order to be granted on a temporary basis and then on a more permanent basis, you could have a five-year stopping of this activity,” Shaker said.

But Lynn thinks something more should be done.

She said she also plans to fight to get a revenge porn law passed in the Buckeye state. Currently only two states, California and New Jersey, have laws where it is illegal. Pennsylvania’s legislature is currently working on a bill to make it illegal in the Commonwealth.

“I want everybody to know this is an issue and we are victims. And for them to say there is nothing they can do is wrong,” Lynn said.
