Event supports trooper battling cancer

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A former state trooper fighting cancer got a lift from family and co-workers.

Alberta Colyar is battling Stage four liver cancer. Saturday’s fundraiser at the Brandywine Club house on Flo-Lor Drive was held  to help her family take care of medical costs.

Relatives say the support has greatly helped the family.

“She gives so much of herself, and she has been fighting,” said Timisha Colyar, Alberta’s daughter. “You won’t even know she is sick, and we are so proud of her. She has made me a better woman.”

The event had a 70s theme, and most of Colyar’s co-workers were there in support of the former OSP worker.

“She is a fighter, just loves people, loves life,” said friend Lillian Howell. “One thing she does love to do is give to people. Even in the situation she is in, she still chooses to give to people.”

The event featured a dance competition and a costume contest.
