Local Red Cross moves headquarters

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) — The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley changed locations Tuesday morning despite snowy conditions.

The organization will now be housed in a new location on Belmont Avenue in Liberty Township. They have been on Mahoning Avenue in Warren since 1917.

The Red Cross serves residents in Trumbull and Mahoning counties and recently started serving Columbiana County as well.

Executive Director Karen Conklin said the move will allow for better assistance of all residents and that being centrally located will help improve response time.

“We have a two-hour mandate from the national organization. So if a fire department or Emergency Management Agency calls us, we have to be on site in two hours. So from Warren to Salem it’s not possible by the time our volunteers would come to the chapter, gather their supplies and get back. So, it’s about Red Cross efficiency in this community,” Conklin said.

She said the new building in Liberty also will be more cost efficient. The old location in Warren is currently on the market for $150,000.
