YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — After being deployed nearly a year overseas, Corrections Officer Casey Harrell returned back to work Tuesday at the Corrections Corporation of America to a hero’s welcome.
Co-workers waved flags for Harrell as she walked down the hallway of the prison Tuesday afternoon. She returned Friday night with the rest of the 838th Military Police Unit who spent the last year in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army. Harrell says the CCA is not just a workplace, but a second family for her.
“They were a great support,” Harrell said. “I consider a lot of these people close friends, so it was a great surprise, and I really appreciate it.”
Friends and co-workers say they are happy Casey is home safe and sound. They not only have great respect for her but are grateful that she allowed them to participate in her homecoming.
“And to her family for allowing us to participate in it as well, because I know it is a close thing for a family, but we wanted to share in that joy as well,” said CCA Correctional Officer Kim Franke.
Harrell says her most recent deployment will be her last.
