YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Local business leaders got some advice on oil and gas development from a familiar face on Wednesday.
Buzz Pishkur was back in town, offering his insight on the Marcellus shale industry. He was a guest speaker at a luncheon hosted by the Regional Chamber.
Pishkur served as president of Aqua Ohio and the former Forum Health and was a member of the Regional Chamber Board of Directors. Now, he is the Director of Water Utilities for the city of Arlington, Texas and has seen firsthand the long-term effects of oil and gas development.
“We have over 200 well sites in our city limits. The city of Arlington has been very meticulous about the environmental issues that are associated with this kind of activity. It’s been financially beneficial to our community,” Pishkur said.
Pishkur stressed he was only offering his experience, not opinions. He also said that shale development in Arlington has been an economic boon for the city, which has amassed a fund of nearly $100 million from various revenues offered by the oil and gas industry.
