City honors former fire chief

POLAND, Ohio (WKBN) — A tribute was held for the former fire chief of Poland on Thursday night.

Several fire trucks participated in a procession around the Cunningham Becker funeral home in Poland.  It was to honor Edwin “Sonny” Chinowth who died of cancer on Sunday.

Chinowth started his firefighter career as a volunteer in Poland in 1959. He served as chief from 1978 until 1997.

He was just 10 days shy of his 78th birthday when he died.
