YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Michele Lepore-Hagan had a big name guest at her fundraiser Thursday evening.
Actor Steve Buscemi, star of the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire,” was at the event, which was held at Overture Restaurant at the DeYor Performing Arts Center. Tickets were $50 each.
Buscemi and Lepore-Hagan met through her friend, who is now Buscemi’s wife.
Lepore-Hagan’s sister, Nanette Lepore, is a New York fashion designer, whose clothing line has been worn by several actresses, including Eva Longoria, America Ferrera and Kerry Washington.
Buscemi, who won the 2011 Golden Globe for his portrayal of Nucky Thomspon in the hit HBO series, said he shares the same political views as Lepore-Hagan.
Lepore-Hagan is running for the 58th District Ohio House seat currently held by her husband, Bob Hagan, who cannot run again because of term limits. She is an instructor in the College of Creative Arts and Communication at Youngstown State University.
She said watching her husband all these years has prepared her for the position.
“I have lived for 27 years under the microscope of political life. And I know what is coming, so I am prepared for the next thing that is going to happen, but it is a little different when you are on the other side,” Lepore-Hagan said.
Lepore-Hagan is being challenged in the May primary by Youngstown Councilwoman Janet Tarpley, Cynthia McWilson and Michael E. O’Hara.
