Four different Canfield boys swam their way to a 7th place finish overall at the Division II State Swimming Championships Friday.
Connor Brady led the way by finishing 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly (50.70). Brady also finished 7th in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 52.12.
“I am beyond happy,” Brady said after his second place finish. “I wasn’t expecting that, but it feels awesome. I had to look twice, I was so surprised. I had to make sure it wasn’t just the lane I was in. But it was awesome.”
Senior Daniel Bogen competed in two individual events as well, finishing 7th in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.65. “The time was solid,” Bogen said. “It was where I was yesterday. I got to stand on the podium at state. This is the fastest meet, high school meet in the country, and it’s a really big deal.”
Bogen took 13th in the 100 yard freestyle (48.29).
The Cardinals also showed strong in the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relays. The boys took second in the 200 with a time of 1:27.65. They placed 5th in the 400 with a time of 3:13.14. Drew Bennett and Mike DiDomenico rounded out the relay teams and were excited with the results.
“Complete awe,” Bennett said. “It was a dream come true just to get to this meet, and so to come in second is just icing on the cake. It was awesome. It was the best feeling in the world.”
“It’s just awesome,” DiDomenico said. “Getting a medal is just very difficult. You have to put in a lot of hard work, and swim extra laps and go the extra 110% in practice, so it’s just that little stuff that gets you on the podium.”
