Community celebrates the memory of a Sharon teenager

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. (WKBN) — The community came together today in memory of a Sharon teenager who died this past week.

Robert VanHorn died at his home Tuesday night.

He was on the swim and track teams, and played in the Sharon High School band.

Jim Pitts and a group of friends helped to organize today’s fundraiser in Sharpsville.

Pitts says VanHorn’s mother is very active in the community, and is a grief counselor herself.

“Any time you put a small charity run on, you don’t want to be on the receiving end of it, obviously. This is a friend and when this happens you try to rally the small community behind them,” said Jim Pitts.

Robert’s death comes just a few months after two Sharon high students died in a car crash, along with a Brookfield man, in a head-on car crash.
