COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio (WKBN) — It’s about to get more expensive for no-shows in Columbiana Mayors Court.
According to our print partners at the Morning Journal, the city will soon impose a $20 increase in court costs for people who skip their appearance.
The new fines would be: $69 for non-moving violations and $79 for moving violations. The city would get $40 from each fine. Right now it gets $20.
Mayor Bryan Blakeman said fewer than 50 percent of people appeared for scheduled court dates last month.
Police said the increase is not designed to cover expenses.
The court spends about $12,200 a year in salary and printing costs.
