Area Dems counter Kasich ahead of speech

Members of the Mahoning Valley’s Democratic delegation in Columbus said Monday morning that their constituents should not simply accept what Governor John Kasich says in his State of the State Address tonight.

The area’s four Democratic state representatives, as well as Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, met with reporters Monday morning before heading down to Medina where the Governor will be speaking.

They claim despite statements from the administration, fewer people are working across the state and local school districts and governments are being pressed to make ends meet.

“And if the governor’s going to get up tonight and give a flowery speech about how all of these things are improving under his watch, the stats and the statistics show that that’s just not the case,” Schiavoni said.

The lawmakers say voters need to pay attention to the Governor’s remarks tonight to see if he addresses what they believe are the state’s problems — as well as coming up with solutions.

You will be able to watch the State of the State Address tonight in its entirety beginning at 7 p.m. on WKBN.com.
