AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — An employee of Home Savings and Loan is the owner of a new Chevrolet Cruze thanks to the United Way.
Richard Shafer of New Wilmington had the key that turned on the turbo diesel Cruze during the event at Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown. The car giveaway was a joint effort of the Mahoning and Trumbull County United Ways as an incentive to donate to the campaign.
His wife, Sue Shafer, accompanied him to the dealership.
Richard Shafer said the United Way helps provide a cushion of support for those who need it most.
“I’m involved heavily in housing for low and moderate income people in the area as well. [Trumbull County United Way Executive Drector] Ginny Pasha and I have worked together on some of those programs, but through the United Way, many people benefit broadly across the county,” Shafer said.
There were 10 finalists for the car: Five from Mahoning and five from Trumbull.
