YFD adds new firefighters

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Top city leaders in Youngstown gathered Tuesday to administer the oath of office to two new firefighters.

Patrick Holcomb and Zackary Whinery were sworn in during a ceremony at Fire Station One in downtown Youngstown. Holcomb and Whinery will replace two firefighters who retired.

Craig Tershel was promoted from lieutenant to captain during the ceremony.

“Our staffing right now is going to be 138, which is what it was last year,” said Chief John O’Neill. “We’ll take next year as it goes and see how the retirements go this year.”

Youngstown Mayor John McNally officiated the ceremony.
