Route 62 accident

HERMITAGE, Pa. (WKBN) – A car slammed into a house in Hermitage early Thursday morning, critically injuring the driver and knocking power out near the scene of the accident.

According to police, the driver of a car was traveling north on Route 62 about 12:30 a.m. Thursday when he lost control a few feet south of the Buhl Farm Drive intersection and struck a house at 1918 Shenango Valley Freeway, causing the vehicle to flip over.

The man, Darin Sagenich, 21, of Hermitage, was pinned in the vehicle and had to be rescued with extraction equipment. He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh, but the extent of his injuries is unknown.

EMS workers examined an infant resident of 1918 Shenango Valley Freeway. The baby was later taken to Sharon Regional Health System by private vehicle.

About 20 to 100 customers along Route 62 lost power as a result of the crash, but it has since been restored.

The crash is still under investigation.
