Police investigating child death

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old child.

According to police, the body of 3-year-old Quinton Alli was found by his mother about 9 a.m. Saturday on the back porch of a house in the 2807 block of South Avenue.

The 911 call reveals the family’s frantic plea for help:

Caller:  I need an ambulance, police as soon as possible.

911:  What is wrong? What is it, honey?

Caller: One of the kids, my little son.

911: What?

Caller: One of the kids, my little son was on the back porch and he is not breathing.

911: Did he have clothes on?

Caller: Oh no.

911: How long were you looking for him?

Caller: I just woke up.

Alli was found on an enclosed back porch without heat, wearing only underwear. Detectives said it appears the child died from exposure.

“He may have wandered out there some time during the night,” said Lt. Douglas Bobovynik. “The door may have shut behind him”

Temperatures overnight dropped to 16 degrees. Bobovynik said the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office will determine a cause of death.

Police are looking in to how the child made it outside of the house with two adults and nine other children in the home.

“We’ll continue to speak to other witnesses and probably Children Services and we’ll go from there,” said Bobovynik. “You always have to be very vigilant when you are watching young children. These things happen, and you always have to be very careful.”

Police said it is too early to tell what sort of charges could be filed in the case

A report details a history of service calls made to the South Avenue address. Most regarded children and came from the same cell phone. The report shows calls dating back to 2009.
