WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – African-American history was the order of the day Saturday afternoon in Warren.

The YWCA hosted Students of True African-American History at its North Park Avenue location.

The group is made up of people who are interested in learning and sharing information on African-American and African history.

Among the speakers was Lea Dotson, who discussed the importance of thinking for yourself.

“We emulate what we see on TV. We emulate what’s being told to us instead of understanding who we are,” said Dotson. “I think once we understand who we are as people, we can begin to get over some of these issues.”

The event included also included vendors, performers and workshops.
