3 horses removed from farm

BERLIN CENTER, Ohio (WKBN) — Three horses were removed from a farm by humane agents Monday afternoon.

Agents from Animal Charity were called to the farm on Route 534 to check on the welfare of the horses. They found the animals in bad shape and very underweight.

The horses were owned by a woman who rented the barn from the property owner. A nearby neighbor who did not want to be identified said she was shocked at what she found inside the barn.

“I went over to check on them. There was no feed there. No hay. What little hay that was there I gave each one of them part of it so they would have something to eat. But she hasn’t been around to feed them for three or four days. No water, the water was frozen,” the neighbor said.

Happy Trails Animal Rescue in Ravenna took the horses and will have them checked out. It is unknown if the owner of the horses will face charges.
