Semi gets stuck in snow on Route 422

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – A tractor-trailer got stuck on a pile of snow on busy Route 422 in Niles.

A semi blocked traffic early Wednesday afternoon on Youngstown-Warren Road (Route 422) in Niles after the back wheels became stuck in a pile of snow and ice.

The truck was attempting to make a right hand turn out of the PetSmart and Big Lots plaza when it got stuck.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to free the semi by breaking up the ice and snow with fire hoses.

“The fire department came out and gave us a hand. They were able to chip away and use the water to melt the ice from underneath the tires and level the truck back out and get him on his way,” said Niles Police Patrolman Shawn Crank.

The eastbound lanes of Route 422 were blocked for about 25 minutes.
