JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – An Austintown man walked away from an accident Thursday morning that destroyed his vehicle.

According to Jackson Township police, Christopher Vega, 27, of Austintown was traveling west on Gladstone Road about 7 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree.

Both airbags on the vehicle deployed, and the tree smashed the front of the car clear up to the driver’s compartment.

According to Chief Gregg Taillon, Vega said he took his eyes off the road for just a moment to change a CD.

Vega was not seriously injured and refused treatment at the scene.

Taillon said Vega was on his way to work at Leonard Trailer in North Jackson when the accident occurred.

Vega was cited for failure to control.
