Protestant Family Service celebrates 70 years of service

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A Youngstown organization that helps people in emergency situations, celebrates 70 years of service.

And the organization continued with its mission with a fundraiser this afternoon.

Protestant Family Service, held its first ever scrabble fundraiser at Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman.

The organization provides emergency assistance for food and utilities.  The agency also helps families during Christmas.

The organization has been serving the community since 1944.

“The churches who support us, they graciously open their doors and allow us to come in free of charge so that we can perform our activities,” said Jackie Burley, director of Protestant Family Service.

Last year, the agency provided emergency assistance to more than 11-hundred families.
