Salon aids local family

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — A Boardman salon came reached out to the community on Sunday to help a local family that has fallen on rough times.

Held at Salon at Creekside, the “Cut-A-Thon” was put on for the Spencer family of Poland.

Four months ago, Michael Spencer was diagnosed with a rare, very rapid growing type of cancer. Because of that, he can no longer work.

Meanwhile, his wife, Maria, was laid-off from her job helping special-needs children.

The benefit was to help them with medical expenses.

“We’re just very grateful for all of the stylists who spent their time here today for us. We’re just overwhelmed,” said Maria.

She added that the family expects to find out this week if the treatment he has been undergoing in Cleveland.
