Second fire strikes the Rodeway Inn

LIBERTY, Ohio (WKBN)  — One day after abruptly closing its doors, a fire broke out Saturday at the Rodeway Inn on Belmont Avenue in Liberty

According a township fire official, crews were called just before midnight to the former Metroplex on reports of a blaze in one of the rooms.
The fire was contained to the room, and crews cleared the scene about 2 a.m.

The official wasn’t sure if there was anyone in the building when firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A day earlier, hotel owner, Indira Periyasamy, told guests and employees she was closing the hotel because of a fire that broke out there last Monday. All guests and employees were told to be off the property by 9 a.m.

She also turned in her operating license and her liquor license to the Ohio State Department of Commerce.

A fire marshal is investigating the cause of Monday’s fire, which started in the hotel’s laundry room.

Periyasamy put the business up for sale through an online auction in November, but it was never sold because the minimum asking price was not met.

Also closed is Goodies Restaurant, which means 20 employees are out of work.
