Firefighter falls through floor battling blaze

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – A firefighter was injured at the scene of a fire in Boardman early Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to the 7500 block of Sugar Creek Drive, just south of Route 224, about 3:30 a.m. after neighbors saw smoke coming from the house.

Boardman Fire Chief George Brown said the department believes the blaze started between the first and second floors. The investigation, which Brown believes will finish up Wednesday afternoon, has so far turned up nothing suspicious.

No one was living at the residence.

One firefighter fell through the second-story floor, landing on the first floor and injured his leg and back while battling the blaze. He was treated at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, and Brown said he will have to follow up with his doctor.

A cause and damage estimate have not been determined.
