Community rallies around local family

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – A two-year-old girl is fighting for her life and her community is trying to help.

Ariella Procner is undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma at Akron Children’s Hospital.  The community came together Saturday to raise money with a spaghetti dinner at the First United Methodist Church in Niles.

Procner’s family recently received good news – the tumors on her brain and leg have disappeared, but there is still one wrapped around her aorta.

“It is a little surprising that many people would be here to support us, but it means a lot to us because I never actually thought this would happen to Arie,” said Isabella Johnson, Ariella’s sister.

Ariella’s aunt, Darlene Morgenstern, stood in for her sister and thanked everyone for their support.

“It means so much. My sister couldn’t be here, but I took pictures of the whole event to show her how much it means for everyone to come out,” said Morgenstern.

Organizers say they hope to raise a couple thousand dollars to help with expenses surrounding Ariella’s treatments.
