New Castle heading to Hershey

The New Castle boys basketball team is now one win away from a PIAA State Title, following a 58-54 win over Abington in the PIAA State Semifinals Tuesday night at Chambersburg High School.

It’s the program’s first trip to the state championship game since the 1997-98 season, when the Red Hurricanes were defeated by Harrisburg.

The Red Hurricanes held off a late fourth quarter charge from the Galloping Ghosts, drawing an offensive foul with 10 seconds left, sealing the victory with clutch free throws down the stretch.

Anthony Richards led New Castle with a team-high 16 points, while Malik Hooker added 15.  Stew Allen also reached double-figures with 11, while Drew Allen chipped in with 9.  Jake McPhatter finished with 7.

New Castle improves to 30-0 on the season.  The Red Hurricanes advance to face LaSalle College High School in the PIAA State Championship Saturday night at 8PM at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
