Semi driver injured in Route 82 crash

BROOKFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) —  A semi-truck driver is at the hospital after flipping his large truck on State Route 82 Tuesday morning.

The truck was going east on Route 82 when it went through a guardrail, down an embankment, and landed on Route 82 westbound. The crash happened about 9 a.m.

The truck was carrying a roll of steel and was making its way to Wheatland Steel Processing. It took about an hour to rescue the driver from the cab of the truck.

A friend of the truck driver, Ray McCormick, said he thinks the driver had a coughing spell and blacked out because the driver is a smoker. McCormick said he has come close to doing the same thing.

The crash is under investigation by the Warren Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Route 82 westbound was closed for about five hours.
