Decapitated chickens found at Pa. cemetery

Animal abuse investigation

FLEETWOOD, Pa. (AP) – A disturbing discovery has been made at an eastern Pennsylvania cemetery.

WFMZ-TV said decapitated chickens, pennies, pieces of coconut and heart candies were found on the grounds of the Berks County Memorial Gardens in Maidencreek Township.

Northern Berks Regional Police Officer Chuck Hobart said two decapitated black chickens were found Monday with pennies and coconut pieces spread around the remains, and dozens of dead chickens were scattered throughout the cemetery.

Police believe it may be some sort of religious ritual but vandalism and possibly animal cruelty charges could be filed against the perpetrator.

There are also reports of items that have gone missing across the cemetery but police don’t know if there is a connection. They plan to step up patrols until the case is solved.
