WRPA relieves DeLeon of her duties

VIENNA, Ohio (WKBN) — The Western Reserve Port Authority relieved Executive Director Rose Ann DeLeon of her title and duties Wednesday morning at their meeting.

Officials said DeLeon is not being fired, but is in essence retiring from her position.  She has been on sick leave since the beginning of 2014 and nearly exhausted her sick leave, which will run out by April 11.

The board voted in favor of granting DeLeon an extension until April 15 and will continue to pay her medical benefits through the end of April. The board also is helping her collect disability retirement benefits through the Public Employees Retirement System.

A Columbus firm has been brought in to assist the port authority with a strategic plan to find DeLeon’s replacement.

“To redefine and come up with a job description based upon our experience to date, said Board Chairman Jim Floyd. “We will be going out with an RFP (request for proposal) based upon the input of that planning and our own experience to define the position of executive director of the port authority.”

The Board did vote to increase the salary of the port authority’s Senior Economic Manager, Sarah Lown, based on a performance audit. She will make $3,500 more per year and will take on added duties until a new executive director is in place.
