Basketball fever hits the Valley

The NCAA tournament kicked off Thursday afternoon, and March Madness fever was high across the Valley.

“It’s great, it is what Ohio State fans live for, whether it is basketball, football or any other athletic event,” said Ohio State fan Bill Clemons.

“It is two of the most exciting days of the whole year for sports. There is always two or three games going on at the same time. Always exciting finishes, really exciting time to be a sports fan,” said Buffalo Wild Wings Regional Manager Doug Esenwein.

Esenwein says that the first round of the Big Dance is a busy time for the restaurant.

“With the Super Bowl, for our business it is much more about takeout and house parties and people getting together at home,” Esenwein said. What is great about this, it is early in the day, it is early in the week, much more in-store, much more people want to sit around to watch multiple TVs.”

Part of the fun is filling out a bracket. There has never been a perfect bracket filled out, which is the reason why people like Warren Buffet and Cavs Owner Dan Gilbert offer up big bucks for perfection. Even if the odds are not in your favor, it does not stop people like New Castle native Rocco Colavecchia.

{“I am winning the billion dollars. You are winning it? You know how tough that is right? Its like one in nine trillion but that is this guy right here,” Colavecchia said.

The crew at Buffalo Wild Wings had their own philosophy for picking the games.

{“A lot of our team members that did our team bracket do look at the colors of the jerseys and the nicknames,” Esenwein said.

Nine of the last 10 National Champions have had blue in their jerseys. Ohio State ended up losing to Dayton in the first round.
