Judge rules man is too mentally ill to stand trial

LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) — A Youngstown man is not able to stand trial for murder.

On Friday, Judge C. Ashley Pike ruled that Christopher Adkins is too mentally ill to understand the court proceedings or participate in his own defense.

He was arrested late last year in the 2009 suffocation death of Arthur G. Gilmore of Salem – his stepfather.

Adkins will be treated at Heartland Behavioral Clinic.

The case remains open, but on hold until he regains competency.
