Police ID suicidal man, victim in W. Pa. standoff

WINDBER, Pa. (AP) – Police have identified a man who fatally shot himself to end a police standoff that began when he wounded his girlfriend at the home he sometimes shared with her in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Windber police on Friday identified the gunman as 51-year-old Jack Robert Prescott.

Police say he sometimes lived with Deanna Hoffman, but wasn’t currently living at her residence when he shot her in the head Thursday. Police say she was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown where she’s expected to survive.

Police say the standoff began when officers went to arrest him on some misdemeanor warrants about 2 p.m. Thursday.

Prescott was found to have shot himself when police were able to enter the home several hours later.

The Cambria County coroner has ruled the incident an attempted homicide-suicide.
