Sharon church says goodbye

SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) — A Sharon church closed its doors after serving the faithful for more than a century.

Two final Masses were held Sunday morning at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, which was founded 111 years ago.

By the afternoon, the small congregation gathered to celebrate both their church and heritage.

There were Hungarian music and dancers, and a veterans honor guard.

“It’s sad, it was a sad day this morning, but it’s a fitting tribute for this Valley, the community members in this neighborhood,” said church elder Jeffrey Calvin.

The building may be gone, but the congregation will continue to meet at the former Book Rack store in downtown Sharon.

Calvin said the church has about 15 members.
