Students get college preview

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Local 8th graders are getting a chance this week to preview college through the eyes of 9th graders who currently attend Yougnstown Early College.

Youngstown Mayor John McNally kicked off “Early College High School Week” at Youngstown State University Monday morning. YSU will play host this week to a number of activities designed to get students thinking about their futures.

The 8th graders will shadow the 9th graders and even take part in abbreviated courses.

“It’s a very successful model to allow students to obtain as many college credits as possible, while also earning their credits for high school, so it’s a celebration that this works for high achievement and that’s why we had this assembly,” said Youngstown Early College principal Monica Jones.

Youngstown Early College is one of 240 early colleges nationwide taking part in this special week.
