Gas prices drop 7 cents

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Area gas prices are down across the region.

Northeast Ohio gas prices fell seven cents to $3.56 a gallon this week, according to AAA East Central.

The average price at the pump nationally is $3.53 per gallon, 12 cents more than one month ago, and 14 cents less than the same time last year.

Price fluctuations this time of year are due in part by the impact of season refinery maintenance and any disruptions to production or distribution. Refiners are required to switch over to a summer-blend gasoline by May 1, which could disrupt production as companies prepare for the change.

Prices dropped in 20 states with the Great Lakes Region topping the list with the most significant price drop. Only prices in Hawaii are above $4 per gallon.

The cheapest gas prices reported by AAA East Central were in Massilon at $3.346 per gallon. The highest average price was in the Lyndhurst area at $3.61 per gallon.
