New Castle residents line streets for victory parade

NEW CASTLE, Pa.(WKBN) — The community of New Castle lined the streets Thursday night for a victory parade honoring the school’s best basketball team ever.

Hundreds of people turned out to celebrate the Red Hurricanes’ perfect season and state title.

Police cars, fire trucks, cheerleaders and the marching band led the way.

The players rode along on a float before signing autographs.

Head coach Ralph Blundo took the microphone in front of the crowd and thanked fans for their unwavering support.

“We are the absolute envy of every other school in the state of Pennsylvania because of you guys. It’s not because we’re really good at basketball. It’s because nobody during that state championship walked out onto that floor and saw a sea of black, 5,000 people. Are you kidding me?,” Blundo said.

The boys varsity squad beat LaSalle on Saturday 52 -39.
