Belinky removes name from ballot

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Former Mahoning County Probate Court Judge Mark Belinky took his name off the ballot for the May 6 primary election Tuesday, eliminating himself from contention for the probate court judge position. Any votes cast for him will not be counted.

Mahoning County Republican Party Chairman Mark Munroe announced March 28 that five applicants applied to be considered for the Mahoning County Probate Judge position, left vacant after Belinky resigned two weeks prior.

Belinky resigns

Mary Ann Fabrizi, Susan Maruca, George Millich, Jr., Robert N. Rusu and Christopher Sammarone applied before Thursday’s 5 p.m. deadline.

The Republican Party will schedule meetings for the applicants with a screening committee, according to a press release. Retired judge, R.R. Denny Clunk was tapped to fill the position until the governor makes his decision.

Maruca and Sammarone already had filed to run against Belinky in the May Democratic primary.
