YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Local arborists and tree care professionals team up for an annual tree event.
Saturday was the second anniversary of the Annual Youngstown Arbor Day of Service.
Volunteers from local tree businesses worked on trees in Wick Park. They spent several hours cutting down the dead and hollow trees, and cleared away branches near light poles.
Organizers say the services help improve the aesthetics and health of the plants and trees, which in turn, provides green infrastructure benefits to properties within the city.
“It helps promote better branch structure and health of the trees,” said Kurtis Magnello, event coordinator. “By doing that, the trees can withstand wind, ice, and things like that.”
The volunteers cut down and worked on over a dozen trees in the park.
