Man dies in Salem fire

SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) –  One person died in a house fire in Salem Friday night.

Crews were called to 861 S. Lincoln Ave. around 9:37 p.m. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from a second story window.

An elderly man was found wandering on the first floor and was escorted out.

David Schiller, 51, was recovered from the second floor. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A third person made it out of the house and alerted firefighters to the others still inside the home.

According to reports, the fire consumed two floors of the house and the attic.

A firefighter was treated for minor injuries.

Damascus and Perry Township fire departments assisted.

A cause has not been determined. The State Fire Marshal is investigating.
