CINCINNATI (AP) – A 14-year-old Ohio boy was expected to be in court to face charges that he fatally shot a 14-year-old girl over the weekend.
The teen was due in juvenile court in Cincinnati after the Saturday shooting that killed Tyan Adkins. She was shot in the chest at an apartment in the Avondale neighborhood and died later at a hospital.
Police said the boy is charged with having weapons under disability and reckless homicide. Having weapons under disability means the teen had a prior felony conviction and should not have been in possession of a gun.
The boy’s family told reporters in Cincinnati that the shooting was an accident.
The killing came just eight days after a 14-year-old boy was gunned down in the same neighborhood.
