Pinwheels placed to remember abused children

Akron Children's pinwheels

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Pinwheels filled the lawn of a local hospital on Tuesday in recognition of abused children.

As part of Child Abuse Prevention Month, The Akron Children’s Advocacy Center and Mahoning County Children Services hosted the 9th Annual Pinwheels for Prevention luncheon.

The keynote speaker was Sharon Hrina, vice president of Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

As part of the event, 1, 377 pinwheels were placed on the lawn at Akron Children’s Hospital’s Beeghly campus in Boardman.

Each pinwheel represents a child who received abuse services in Mahoning County in 2013.

The pinwheels also stand as a reminder to those who pass the campus that everyone plays a role in preventing child abuse and neglect.
