Trumbull County to sue hotel owner over bed tax money

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) — Trumbull County Commissioners on Wednesday approved a motion authorizing the county prosecutor to file a civil suit for the unpaid lodging/bed tax money owed by Aswin Ganapathy Hospitality Associates, LLC.

Last month, our investigation uncovered that the owners of the Rodeway Inn had not paid the bulk of their 2013 bed tax. According to documents we obtained from the county treasurer’s office, owner Indira Periysamy received a letter on Jan. 15 stating she did not pay bed tax from February through June and August through December.

The Trumbull County prosecutor said they never received a response back.

The hotel was closed abruptly last month.

It is not known how much bed tax is owed, but the suit will force Periyasamy to open her books.
