National walking day

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – National Walking Day was Wednesday and lots of the people in the Valley were on the move.

The goal of the effort is to improve cardiovascular health by hitting the pavement whenever you can.

Heart Walk Director Allison Oltmann said physical activity is the easiest way to increase cardiovascular health.

Just because it is exercise, though, doesn’t mean it has to be hard or inconvenient.

“Putting on the tennis shoes, whether it is during a lunch break, whether it is through a 15 minute break that might occur throughout the day, after you get home, taking a stroll with your family, encouraging that activity would be a great, great accomplishment.”

The annual Heart Walk is scheduled for Sept. 20.
