Boardman school to run PARCC pilot test

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — A Boardman elementary school will be joining a list of other Valley schools participating in a pilot test for a new online assessment for students.

A fourth-grade reading class at Stadium Drive Elementary will be taking the English Language Arts portion of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, pilot test next week. The test will replace the Ohio Graduation Test for high school students, as well as the Ohio Achievement Test for grades 3 through 8. Ohio schools will start taking the online assessments next year.

“We thought it was a good opportunity to practice the test,” said Stadium Drive Elementary Principal Jim Goske. “We wanted to give it a trial run before we have to take the test for real for next year and work out some kinks and find out if we’re ready from a technology standpoint.”

Struthers Schools, Austintown Local Schools, and Jackson-Milton Schools are just a few of the other Valley districts participating in the pilot test.
