Pinwheels spin for child abuse prevention in Trumbull County

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, Trumbull County Children Services in conjunction with the Akron Children’s Hospital’s Mahoning Valley Child Advocacy Center and the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund hosted a Pinwheels for Prevention event at the CSB building in Warren Friday morning.

The pinwheels display is part of a month-long campaign by Prevent Child Abuse Ohio to enhance community awareness about child abuse and neglect, and encourage support for prevention.

Each of the 1,667 pinwheels represents one report of child maltreatment in the county. On Friday, the pinwheels also represented adults who provide a voice and advocate for children. On Saturday, the pinwheels will represent children who are growing up in safe, loving families.

CSB Director Tim Schaffner said with the economy and the drug problem, they are seeing an increase in the number of cases of abuse.
