Chase leads to drugs and weapons arrest

CAMPBELL, Ohio (WKBN) – A Youngstown man is in the Mahoning County Jail facing numerous charges following a late night police chase.

According to Campbell police, Richard L. Williams Jr., 41, was arrested just before midnight after leading officers on a vehicle and foot chase.

Officers tried to pull Williams over for driving violations in the area of McCartney Road. He fled to Youngstown, according to police, then returned to Campbell where he pulled into a parking lot in the area of Wilson and Center Street and began driving in circles. Williams then drove from the parking lot a short distance, where he stopped and tried to run away.

Following a short foot chase, a K-9 officer and other officers got Williams to the ground, where he was arrested. Once detained, police said they found a loaded, .40-caliber handgun in the center console of his car. They also found marijuana and a knife in his pockets. In the lining of his jacket, police say they found numerous bags of marijuana and cocaine valued at hundreds of dollars.

Williams is charged with eluding, carrying concealed weapons, obstruction, resisting arrest, possession of drugs, as well as drug trafficking. He is due in Campbell Municipal Court on Tuesday.
