Sheriff: Defiance County worker killed by driver

Fatal crash

HICKSVILLE, Ohio (AP) – Authorities say that an 87-year-old driver trying to back his vehicle up to a trash container at a refuse pickup center in Hicksville mistakenly drove forward, striking and killing a Defiance County worker.

The Blade in Toledo reports (http://bit.ly/1imuK5q) that 58-year-old Peter Simonis, of Defiance, was pinned against a parked trailer by the car driven by Max Hook, of Hicksville.

Sheriff’s deputies say that Simonis was flown by medical helicopter to Parkview North Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he died. The accident was under investigation.
