Deputy crashes during chase

WARREN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – A Trumbull County sheriff’s deputy crashed during a pursuit on U.S. Route 422 in Warren Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Major Harold Firster, 64, of Warren, was traveling west on Route 422 in pursuit of a vehicle when he made a left turn to cross over at Anderson Anthony Road in an effort to cut off the vehicle in pursuit.

Firster pulled partially into the lane of a tractor-trailer traveling east on Route 422.

Firster sustained minor injuries, but refused treatment at the scene.

The drive of the tractor trailer, Norman Beitzer, 57, of Warren, was not injured.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

A dispatcher at the patrol barracks could not confirm the status of the investigation into the vehicle that was the target of the pursuit.
