Dr. Shayesteh: Tips to trim your ‘menopot’

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Women over the age of 40 have an especially hard time losing weight because of natural hormonal changes.

Dr. Shayesteh said when women are younger, they store most of their fat in their hips and thighs, giving them a pear shape. But as they approach menopause and estrogen levels drop, they begin to store more fat in their abdominal region, giving them an apple shape.

The doctor said too much abdominal fat leads to insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes, which is a lethal combination.
