Garrettsville fire investigation closed, cause undetermined

Garrettsville, Ohio

GARRETTSVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) — The Ohio State Fire Marshal has closed the investigation into a fire last month that destroyed half of downtown Garrettsville.

Michael Duchesne, communications director for the fire marshal’s office, said the cause of the March 22 blaze is officially listed as undetermined, but investigators could not rule out the ignition of roofing materials. One of the buildings, which dated back to 1850, was having some roof repairs done at the time the fire broke out.

Duchesne said there was nothing suspicious about the fire, which destroyed 13 businesses.
